I only just realised I used tobacco scented products today and it’s Tuesday, so this has to be my first Tobacco Tuesday shave!
I’ve also set myself a task to use more creams to get the stash down a bit as these days I prefer a soap or croap.
I bought this cream on sale a while ago in TK Maxx purely as I had heard good things about the scent and performance and I’d say it’s really good stuff. I’d definitely clear the shelves if I saw more on sale.
There is no mention of using a brush on the packaging so it may be a brushless cream but it certainly lathers well with a brush and water. I used quite a bit just in case but ended up with about twice the lather I actually needed.
This brush is a strong favourite of mine and it’s no longer made, after a soak in warm water while I showered and it lathered up the cream in the suribachi bowl with ease. This brush has great backbone and really soft tips.
The scent of the cream is nice with a tobacco flower scent with a little bit of spice, it’s a really classy scent. It has good cushion and glide, maybe not as good a glide as a soap, but good for a cream.
I started out with the mongoose but the blade seemed really blunt and just wouldn’t cut through the stubble so after the first pass I reached for the nearest razor, my Standard with a vintage made in England Wilkinson blade which I’ve lost count of the number of shaves I’ve had from it. It’s still going strong anyway!
After 3 passes I was nice and smooth and looking for a nice aftershave scent to finish off. What better than the tobacco scented Versace Dreamer, I’ve had this bottle for years but have only recently come to appreciate the scent, must be my age. The scent lasts for ages and leaves my skin feeling good.
Today after coming home to a few deliveries consisting of about 9 soaps I decided to try the Soapy Bathman Cigar Lounge soap.
The packaging really surprised me as it comes with a plastic seal and another cover once you open the lid. Certainly no fear of anyone opening a soap before you when it arrives. A nice touch but not one I’ve come across before.
The soap does look a bit strange at first as it has a sort of white bubbly layer on top of the soap but that goes away after a quick soak in water and it’s all gone after the first loading of the soap.
It’s a very hard soap and I’d read up on this and people had said as its so hard you need to load it up well. I decided to give it a good soak with water while I showered and used the omega boar brush.
Being over cautious I loaded for about 45 seconds with a damp brush which I think may have been a little too long. I had a very thick paste in the bristles but after working into my stubble and adding water along the way I soon got the lather to the consistency I like.
The lather was nice and thick and seemed to glide really well during the shave, certainly a good performer and I didn’t have any issues with the lather breaking down as I had read in some reviews. The only thing that let me down slightly was the scent. But that’s a personal thing but on this first use I’m not a big fan. I’ll give it a few tries before making a decision as there is something in there I like. It’s a rich scent but not overpowering in use.
Post shave felt good and not drying at all and no tightness of the skin. A quick splash of my new Fine Accoutrements Platinum splash to finish off what was a great feeling shave after nearly 3 days it felt good to be smooth again.
Well this will be the setup for a few days so there won’t be many posts on here. I usually bring a few soaps away but decided just the one this time.
I was searching through my old travel bag and found two bottles of Skinfood, Lime and Sandalwood so put them both in the travel bag to use as a preshave, although they can also double up as a balm if required. I went with the sandalwood as I like the scent more.
The Rooney brush arrived just before I left and as I’ve been waiting for it to arrive seemed the right choice to take away. As you can see from the pre bloom picture below it bloomed out nicely after one use.
It lathered up the Razorock soap with no issues, felt nice on my skin and easily let up the lather for all 3 passes with more to spare. So far I’m impressed with it’s performance, the handle also feels really nice and ergonomic to use.
The Razorock Fresco I picked up when I bought a lot from The Shave Nook BST, I’ve been really impressed by the performance of the lather and it has a really nice scent too. Nice thick, shiny lather with lots of slickness. For the price it’s a hard to beat soap that I would recommend. I chose to bring this away as I can almost see the bottom of the tub so I thought it would help finish it off, but I have a feeling once it’s gone I’ll end up buying another one!
I haven’t use the Gillette Slim in ages and I did struggle at first to remember the angle, but got there in the end. An ok shave but not BBS from the slim.
A quick splash of Lucky Tiger to finish off. Good post shave feel from this but I find it more oily than most and the scent lasts a few seconds, great for adding a scent to wear for the day, but once this sample is gone I wouldn’t buy a bottle as I prefer others over this but nice to try out. If you prefer a splash without much burn or menthol it’s worth a try.
Well that was the setup for yesterday and the coming few days. Off to see what I can find around here now.
