Shaver Heaven week

I had a delivery of Shaver Heaven soaps arrive today to add to the few I already have. I went with the Gone Grapefruit which has a similar scent to TOBS grapefruit, nice and fresh and ideal for the warm summer weather we have been having.

It whipped up really nice and thick with plenty of slickness. I had about 36 hours growth to get rid of so the Futur was the obvious choice, on setting 4 WTG I was looking like I was cleanly shaven after the first pass. I turned the settings down one number per pass and after 3 passes finishing on setting 2 I was pretty much BBS all over.

A quick cooling splash of Skin Bracer and I was done and spent the rest of the night feeling my face in awe of the smoothness.

Floid Vigoroso aftershave

First try of the tallow Shaver Heaven soap and the ikon slant. I think I need to dial this soap in a bit more. It has a nice scent which smells like the little bubble gum balls you get.

The ikon did a good job but didn’t quite feel as smooth as the 102 slant. It seemed to have a different angle as well. Again more use needed to get the best from it I think.

The Floid was nice and cooling on this hot night and I’m left with the nice powdery amber scent.

PAA Al Fin

Another Shaver Heaven shave with the neroli and vetiver soap which I believe is an older formulation to those used previously. I whipped up a lovely thick slick lather with the Stirling Kong brush. The scent on this is nice and when I first got it the vetiver was the dominant note, now with a few uses the neroli seems to have become the dominant note. Just goes to show that scents can change as you get through a soap.

I’m still not a fan of the X3, it’s just not as smooth feeling in use as the 102. It could be the blade I guess so I’m going to switch it out the the B1 slant and try something else in the X3 before making a decision.

EDIT: since trying a new blade it was much smoother.

Overall a good shave was had which was rounded off by a good splash of Al Fin which was very cooling and smelt great.

Brut Sports Style aftershave

I used the oldest formula Shaver Heaven soap I have to round off this week of Shaver Heaven shaves. All of the soaps have performed great but I do find the newer formulas an improvement on what was always a good vegetable based soap.

The scent on this one is great for summer, it’s like a fruit salad type of scent, much more than just lemon, there’s some melon and mandarin in there too.

The BSSW manchurian whipped up plenty of thick slick lather. I felt a little dryer post shave than the newer formula soaps but that is all. The actual shave performance seems similar throughout the range.

The B1 slant with the same blade felt much smoother in use than the X3 and its a lot more audible in use. It’s got to be one of the noisiest razors I have. 3 passes left me nice and smooth and a splash of the Brut sports style finished the job nicely and was a good compliment to the shave soap scent.

Decided the gem blade had seen better days after the first pass so grabbed the closest razor to finish off the last two passes.

As it’s very nearly Christmas I thought it was an idea time to get the Soap Commander Resolution out. A great have followed which is to be expected with any soap commander soap. The shea butter always leaves my skin feeling nice and soft.

I have a few new aftershave samples to try out and today was Razorock The Beach. This has a really nice scent and a good menthol kick as well. Very nice stuff and a great scent.

Lavender weekend

Another busy bank holiday weekend meant I didn’t get chance to blog Saturday’s shave. Let’s talk about today’s shave while its fresh in my head.

I bought a sample of the Catie’s Bubbles Purple Grapefruit in a recent order to see if the scent was for me. Not good news for the bank account because I like it and will pick up a tub in the future.

The usual CB soap performance, it might have just been how I lathered up today but it felt slicker than some of the others I have tried.

A nice scent which starts off mainly with the lavender, but a nice lavender that isn’t over powering with a little sweetness from the grapefruit. Throughout the shave I kept getting little bursts of the sweet grapefruit scent and then relathering for each pass got a boost of the relaxing lavender scent.

The Schick performed well and left me pretty much BBS after 3 passes. I do like the Schick as you can bear down a bit on the most persistent areas of stubble with no fear of nicks or irritation.

A quick splash of the Alpa Fougere cologne and I was done. It has a nice fougere scent which went well with the lavender and drys down to a clean powdery scent.

Following on with the lavender theme Saturday’s shave was

La Toja Aftershave

First try of the Nannys Silly Soap Olive Oil French Lavender soap which a friend gave me with about one shave left in the tin. Unlike most soaps with olive oil this actually lathers and doesn’t break down, I think the olive oil gives this a bit more slickness as well. Good clean lavender scent with this one too and I had a good shave with the Ikon slant.

I finished off with a splash of the La Toja aftershave which is very nice and smells to me a bit like Drakkar Noir. I recently got an Al Rehab perfume oil called Dakar which is a clone of Drakkar Noir and a few days left me smelling good all afternoon.

So good perhaps it lead to a few purchases later on in the day, well I’m blaming smelling good anyway lol.

I now have about 9 soaps on their way to me along with 2 bottles of Fine aftershave courtesy of the shaving station. They are really nice people to deal with and if you spend over £20 you got a free Haslinger soap so that’s one of the 9 soaps winging their way to me through the post.

Luckily I never bought into the whole DE shaving to save money, just a better smoother shave with no irritation and ingrown hairs. I always had a thing for scents and smelling good since my late teens, and always want to try the latest things from the newest chocolate bar to the latest multi blade cartridge. I’m sure some of you have great will power and can stick to the most minimal of setup, and I’m very jealous of you.

Quorum Aftershave

A super smooth shave tonight from the above setup. The yellow 7 o’clock blade is nice and sharp, this was the second blade I bought in bulk when I started wet shaving about 5 years ago. It certainly delivered the results tonight. They aren’t the smoothest of blades I find so I gave the blade a quick hand strop before loading it into the Ikon head.

The sample of WSP Vetiver soap is a good strong scent that is more like a fresh green vetiver scent than the more smoky vetiver scents I’ve used recently. I decided to use the big omega boar tonight using the Marco method of lathering, which resulted in huge amounts of dense slick lather with more than enough for probably another shave.

I am really liking to Ikon at the moment so I’ll have one more shave with it to see how the gillette blade smooths out for the second shave then swap to another razor.

I finished off my shave with a good splash of Quorum aftershave which has a nice manly woody scent with a touch of tobacco too. It’s quite similar to the Woodspice I used recently and lingers for quite a while. I’ve just ordered another brush which should be here by next week. I’m looking forward to that and will post about it once it arrives.

Goodbye J Peterman

Today was my second and final shave with the J Peterman 1903 cream before returning it with some goodies for my friend to try. I’ve also fell off the not buying shaving stuff wagon as I ordered a tub of the Proraso Red pre shave cream yesterday from shavelounge. I also bought a bottle of British Sterling aftershave off eBay as I heard it’s goes well with Caties Bubbles LPV. Apart from an Omega S brush in the near future I’m hoping to get back on the wagon, for a couple of months at least.

Anyway on to today’s shave…
