Third day of Speick week today and I went for the Speick cream. Nice lather from this cream but maybe not as slick as the soap stick.

The ikon and mongoose handle pairing is working well, just the right balance of handle length and weight and the ikon head provides a mild but effective finish.

Rounded off with a good splash of the Brut Sports Style aftershave which did sting a bit. Maybe the cream isn’t as protective as the soap. Nice fresh modern scent from this aftershave which is nothing like the original, the scent hangs around for quite a while too.

Second day of Speick week today. Again just rubbing the stick on my wet face and lathering up from there. A new brush today which may need a period of breaking in but it’s very dense and I wonder if I didn’t get enough soap on my face to satisfy this very dense knot.

This brush has lots of backbone and nice soft tips but I wonder if I prefer knots that aren’t quite so dense. I’ve borrowed this from a friend so I’ll see how I get on with it for a few shaves and maybe try the Speick cream for my next shave.

Superdrug Sierran Breeze with menthol

First shave away from home today. It’s been a while since I used a Mickey Lee Soapworks soap so took The Kraken to use while away by the sea. Seemed the obvious choice given the marine type barber shop scent.

I’m testing out a mystery synthetic brush at the moment to see how it performs and first use seems good. It reminds me of the Muhle type fibres but with quite a low loft. It’s a 22mm knot with a loft of 48mm which on first look it thought just wouldn’t work out well but it’s surprising me.

I left the Ikon 101 and bulldog handle in my travel bag with the GSB blade so continued using that today. Got a nice shave from it as well so I looked presentable heading out.

I finished off with a splash of the Superdrug Sierran Breeze splash with some menthol crystals mixed in to pep it up. I like to call it Sierran Freeze now.

Picked up a few bits today, Old Spice Original and Champion shower gels and a Hawks Ridge deodorant roll on from Pound Land and two gift sets from TK Maxx. Both Dunhill sets, one called Edition, the other Pursuit. Both very nice scents to me. Quite masculine and spicy.

Let’s see what tomorrow brings.

MWF shave no 4

No photo today, but today’s shave was:

No preshave
Frank Shaving Purtech
MWF
Crabtree & Evelyn Limes cream
Ikon 101
Gillette Silver Blue (1)
Proraso aftershave

As the scent of MWF was getting a little boring I decided to add a dab of cream to my face before lathering up today. I chose the C&E cream which came in a trade with Elcubbo recently.

Well it certainly freshened up the MWF scent with a touch of lime and spices but created a really nice super lather with excellent slip and cushion.

I’m away from home for a few days hence the lack of SOTD photo, but packed a few tubes of cream to liven up the MWF scent and possibly save me from any water quality issues affecting the fat.

As I’m away I haven’t been so bothered or had time to shave so I had about 3 days growth to lose today. No problem for this razor and blade combo. The 101 is never going to get me BBS but certainly visibly presentable.

All finished off with a splash of Proraso what better way to end a shave. I’m pretty sure Proraso is my favourite aftershave of all and one I’ll never be without. Once this bottle is nearly gone I’ll order a 400ml bottle.

Speaking of stocking up I found some Tabac on sale in a shop today so stocked up with a few years worth lol. I can’t resist a bargain.

Schick Super Platinum (3)
TOBS No 74 Limes aftershave

Shave number 3 of the month of Mitchells Wool Fat. Much better lather today with the purtech brush.

I didn’t soak the soap before use and found that I needed to load a bit longer to get enough soap in the brush. One dip in the water seemed enough to get a nice slick lather.

The puck seems even more cracked than when I started at the beginning of the month as you might be able to see in the picture above. No other soap I have seems to do this.

3 passes with the Ikon 101 on a bulldog handle with the Schick blade went without drama and resulted in a nice clean shave. Quite a change of aggressiveness from the ATT H1 and you can’t throw the Ikon round your face with no fear of cuts or irritation.

I find the MWF leaves my skin in very nice condition post shave which a lot of people rave about as a positive of this soap.

I finished off with a splash of the TOBS Limes aftershave which always leaves a nice post shave feel and the scent tends to stick around for a while too which is nice. I’ll be away for a few days but hope to be able to post up a few SOTD posts while I’m away. I just need to pack up my travel stuff and I’m done.

For those of you who might be struggling lathering the fat have a look at this video courtesy of Dubster on YouTube.

Fine Accoutrements Clean Vetiver Aftershave

A quick one from me today similar setup to a shave last week apart from razor and brush.

I had a J├╝rgen Hempel Ti handle in blue arrive in the mail today so paired it up with the Ikon 101 head and had a really good shave. I don’t use this head as often as I should and with the new handle it had the perfect balance.

A very good close shave and this sample of the Catie’s Bubbles soap has nearly gone. I’ve grown to like the scent a lot and the menthol hit is just at the right level for me.
